How To Live With a Pup In a Tiny Home – The Pet Blog Lady

Living with a pet in a regular-sized home is challenging enough. Now, add to that the pressure of living in a tiny space and you’ve got yourself an interesting recipe. But, it doesn’t have to be a disaster because if you’re organized then you can manage anything.

Here are some tips on how to live successfully in a tiny home with a dog.

  • Make Sure Your Pup is Never Lonely

Enlist the help of friends and family to look after your pet when you’re not around or use an online app such as Wag Walking, which connects pet owners to dog walkers and sitters in your area. That way, if you know that you’re going to have a long day at work, you can request a walker to take care of your pup in the meantime.

  • It Should Be Easy to Navigate

Make sure that your tiny house is easy for your pup to navigate by keeping everything organized. There should be a place for everything including your pup’s bowls, leashes, beds, toys, and leash leads.

If you enjoy spoiling your pup with toys make sure to store them properly. You can build a cubby hole under your couch for example so that your pet knows where to go to get their toys.

Having a designated space for everything will also make your life easier when it comes to clean-up.

  • Make Them Feel Comfortable

Dogs can feel intimidated and nervous when someone new enters the space, especially because it’s a tiny house. So if you need to introduce someone new to your tiny home, whether it’s a friend or a dog sitter, you need to create an environment that won’t be stressful for your pup.

For instance, leashes should be stored on hooks close to the door so that you or your dog walker can quickly grab them without having to go into the house. Consider taking a dog training class with your pup if they struggle to warm up to strangers more than usual.

As a side note, if you’re still designing your home and want to get your pup up your loft without having to carry them up a ladder, design stairs to cater to their needs. The most important thing is to make sure that they can get up and down the stairs easily.

Pups are known to be energetic and aren’t shy to jump up on the cupboard to look for their food. So you might need to store the food on top of the fridge so that it’s not accessible to them all the time.

  • Invest in a Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

Invest in a handheld vacuum to sweep up all of that dog hair as some dogs can shed throughout the year. Of course, some months will be better than others, but you want to have a handheld vacuum because it’s compact and doesn’t take up a lot of space like traditional normal-sized vacuum cleaners.

A high-powered hand vacuum charges all night and you can use it all day. It’s fast, effective, and cost-effective in the long run.

  • Use Natural Cleaning Products

Living with a pup in a small space means that you must make peace with paw tracks and pet dander. While chemical detergents are effective at removing dirt, they can also be harmful to your health and that of your pet.

The alternative is to use natural cleaning products without any harsh chemicals in them. Most products in this category use essential oils as a fragrance which will leave your home smelling great. This is good news because while you might be nose blind to your pup’s breath, other people might not be.

You should also hang the blanket that your dog lays in at night outside to air out and spritz it with some essential oils to keep it fresh.

Note that if you’re going to use essential oil-based cleaning products, then you should do your research and make sure that you’re not using oils that are harmful to dogs.

Your pup is what makes your tiny house a home. They’re your full-time roommate and companion, as well as a huge part of your everyday life. Hopefully, these tips will help you to create a charming, warm, and welcoming home for you and your pup.
